Why AI Doesn’t Always Get It Right.

As I wrote abount in a previous post, AI provides information based on three basic factors, Game Theory, Drive the Mean and Path of Least Resistance.  Even if you properly set up your prompts, you probably are wondering why you aren’t getting the information you want.  So before we get itnot it, lets look at how humans come to an answer differently than AI using the same three factors.

  • Game Theory – 1. Sacrifice is acceptable to AI but has conditions for Humans.
    2. Mobility is more important than property (no AI hoarders yet) but humans prefer ownership
    3. Winning is the thing and AI is looking for a win only when it is told too, and humans are all over the board with this one.
  • Drive to the mean – 1. AI is only trying to please the one person prompting.  Humans are driven to please themselves (selfish) or everyone (at least groups or clicks).
    2. High performance humans (i.e. early adopters ) look for at least a glimpse of excellence if not six sigma results, AI is very happy with the middle ground. THis is enough for most people.
    3. The mean for AI is the most popular answer, not the one most of us are looking for. Sometimes though it is our bias that makes us think the AI is incorrect or not doing a good enough job.
  • Path of Least Resistance – This is the most human like trait.
    1. AI will use the “mean solution with a bias to the prompter” in order to minimize workload which sometimes backfires and more tokens are needed.  A human uses other cues and creativity to find the most workable solution with the least amount of work, even if it takes more time to find the option than create the solution.
    2. Simple is elegant but… AI only delivers simple and elegant if proerly asked.
    3. Humans will compromise and take a more cooperative path sometimes.  A Human will go to extremes to overcome obstacles.  (Chunnel?) even if it requires others, but AI only overcomes obstacles the prompter presents and doesn’t consider others unless instructed to do so (someone prompted the english chanel as an obstacle to someone)
